Main Beach is located on Queensland’s pristine Gold Coast and provides visitors with a rich taste of coastal culture. With the beach to the east and the river and harbour to the west, Main Beach is straddled by water, creating a beautiful outlook for the high-rise hotels and other buildings along the coast.
Guests travel for the region’s acclaimed beaches and surf scene, as well as popular local theme parks and shopping opportunities. With SeaWorld located within Main Beach, many guests treat the area as a base whilst visiting SeaWorld, as well as other local parks, Warner Bros Movie World, Dream World and Wet ‘N Wild.
There are several outdoor activities on offer in Main Beach, with water sports being particularly popular on the patrolled beaches. While some choose to simply swim, others enjoy joining an organised speed boat or catamaran tour, riding a jet ski, renting a surfboard, or taking a dolphin or whale watching cruise. Scuba diving lessons, fishing tours, and four-wheeler hire are also available to adventurous visitors.
Main Beach has a total of 59 accommodation options and food services, which employ 11.4 percent of residents in the area. With many of Main Beach’s overnight visitors being families, there are a number of family friendly accommodation options available, such as serviced apartments and holiday parks. The area is also home to hotels and holiday apartments that meet a range of budgets and requirements.
After the construction of the Jubilee Bridge in the 1920s, tourism commenced in the area with the construction of holiday accommodation, despite the fact that little to no permanent accommodation existed. While Main Beach still has a relatively small population of just 3,960, it now welcomes many more day trippers and overnight guests to the area throughout the year.
With temperatures averaging in the mid-20s all year round, tourism remains at a steady pace, particularly attracting domestic visitors from cooler states. Tourist numbers are set to sky-rocket in 2018, with the Commonwealth Games to be held on the Gold Coast in April.
