Burleigh Heads

Burleigh Heads can be found in the heart of Queensland’s Gold Coast between Miami and Palm Beach. As its name suggests, the area boasts a stunning headland, as well as sandy beaches, lush national park land, and a great offering of accommodation and activities for the many tourists that visit throughout the year.

Burleigh Heads is a popular destination for holidaymakers seeking a quiet coastal getaway with the benefits of the city and local theme park attractions at their fingertips. While nearby Surfers Paradise, Sea World, Dreamworld, Move World and Wet ‘N Wild have much to offer, Burleigh Heads has plenty of activities and attractions to keep a traveller occupied.

Guests particularly enjoy the area’s natural attractions, with surfers and swimmers gathering at the patrolled Burleigh Heads Beach, while young families take a dip in the calm Burleigh Heads Inlet. Visitors also enjoy bush walks and sight-seeing at the Burleigh Heads National Park, or getting up close with wildlife at the David Fleay Wildlife Park in West Burleigh. Other local attractions include regular local craft and farmers’ markets, as well as a great café, food and beverage offering.

Burleigh Heads has a rich Aboriginal history, having originally been called ‘Jellurgal’ by the traditional owners of the land. It is now home to the Gold Coast’s first dedicated Aboriginal Cultural Centre which is owned and operated by the local Aboriginal community, providing an important opportunity for both domestic and international visitors to meet the traditional owners and grow their understanding of Aboriginal culture.

The greater Gold Coast region welcomes over 13 million tourists per year, including 1.1 million international travellers and 3.7 million overnight domestic guests, with many choosing to stay in one of Burleigh Heads’ esteemed hotels, resorts or holiday parks.

Burleigh Heads is home to a total of 71 accommodation options and food services, employing 10.4 percent of the area’s relatively small local population of 8,600 people. Access for both domestic and international guests via the nearby Gold Coast Airport makes it easy for visitors to reach Burleigh Heads from afar, while major roads such as the Pacific Motorway provide easy access by car.
