Devonport

Located on the picturesque north coast of Tasmania, Devonport not only offers ocean views over Bass Straight, but also of nearby mountains and rivers.

Being a gateway to Cradle Mountain and the Mersey River, there are plenty of opportunities for visitors to Devonport to enjoy getting outdoors and amongst nature. The area is known for its great bushwalking and fishing, and is also home to manicured golf courses, flower farms, and vineyards. The area’s food and beverage offering draws visitors with an interest in locally sourced seafood, wine, and Tasmanian beer.

While Devonport gets cold during the autumn and winter months, its beaches are perfect for swimming throughout summer. There are plenty of parks, rock pools and barbeque facilities near the coast for families to enjoy, and several restaurants overlook the area’s beaches so that visitors can enjoy the ocean views all year long.

Devonport’s Ferry Wharf is the docking place for the Spirit of Tasmania, which brings thousands of tourists to the area each year. The Spirit of Tasmania ferries between Melbourne and Devonport, making it easy for Victorian travellers to access the area. Other domestic and international visitors can fly into Devonport Airport via connecting flights from Melbourne.
