With a vast area of unspoiled mountainous scenery, and over 35 kilometres of uncrowded coastline, the Tweed Coast draws over 1.2 million guests per year, and is reached by both domestic and international guests via the Gold Coast Airport.
The region is home to 14 national parks, which make up a perfect playground for hikers, adventurers, or families looking to cycle or bushwalk. The region’s visitors, along with its 90,000 residents, enjoy year-long moderate temperatures and an average of 50 rain-free days over the summer months.
The area is a popular destination for romantic weekends, offering a number of rainforest resorts and bed and breakfast accommodation options. It also welcomes numerous families, backpackers and solo nature enthusiasts with over 600 accommodation options, including hotels, eco-lodges, holiday parks and backpacker motels.
Popular local areas in the region include a small village called Uki, surfing hotspot Tweed Heads, and the produce-rich township of Murwillumbah, all of which offer a number of diverse activities. Guests to the area enjoy a range of water sports, including kayaking, surfing, fishing, and sea diving, as well as a boutique food, beverage and shopping scene in local villages.
In late 2016, it was reported that the Tweed Coast has seen a 13 percent boost in tourism, compared to Queensland’s average tourism growth of nine percent. With residency, tourism, and local business numbers on the rise, the region is expected to welcome substantial overnight visitor growth in the years to come.
