The magnificent Tall Timbers Resort in gorgeous Smithton is on the gateway to Tasmania’s stunning north west coast, but it has become a luxury destination in its own right.
The property is a showcase of Tasmanian wood, and the accommodation includes 59 modern, refurbished hotel rooms and eight luxury 1 & 2 bedroom self-contained apartments beside the property’s lake.
Tall Timbers is an ideal location for a family holiday, relaxing getaway, or corporate stay, and the nearby attractions include the magical Tarkine Wilderness, Arthur River, Cape Grim, and the historic township of Stanley.
The Tarkine Wilderness is Australia’s largest cool-climate rainforest and has well maintained walking tracks, accessible lookouts, picnic places galore and an abundance of photo opportunities.
Visitors can enjoy one of the many available tours such as helicopter flights and scenic tours, 4WD adventure tours, and Tarkine forest and wilderness experiences. In addition to accommodation, Tall Timbers is also an ideal wedding and function venue or the ideal location for meetings and corporate events utilising its conference centre and facilities.
John Blacklow from Elders Commercial described the magnificent multi award-winning resort as “a unique and picturesque complex that offers a serene and peaceful escape for locals and tourists”.
This expansive estate, 220 kilometres north-west of Launceston, spans almost 11 hectares of lush pasture, lakes and creeks, and is home to a range of facilities and amenities, including luxury accommodation, and dining options.
In addition to the 67 rooms and hotel facilities, the hotel offers a range of recreational activities such as two tennis courts, a gym, and a leisure centre with indoor heated pool.
It also offers a range of dining options including the Tall Timbers Kauri Bistro, named after the Kauri Timber Company, and featuring a menu that celebrates the outstanding fresh produce of Tasmania.
The property’s newest feature, the Cape Grim Grill, serves the finest Cape Grim steaks that have made this region famous.
The Bistro seats 150 guests.
Starting in 2005, the owners embarked on an expansion and renovation program at Tall Timbers costing more than $5 million. The results are stunning.
The hotel was constructed in 1990 and has been owned by the same family for 34 years.
There have been significant increases in hotel occupancy, plus advantageous changes to the gaming legislation in July 2023. The asking price will be disclosed on application.
“It really is a beautiful property,” Mr Blacklow said.
“The same family has owned it for more than 30 years and the only reason they’re selling is that the family patriarch has passed away and the manager there since inception is eyeing retirement.
“The property has a large hotel complex with excellent facilities including dining rooms, bars, gaming lounges and conference areas and there is outstanding accommodation in wonderful units .
“There is also a big indoor recreation centre and a large motorhome and RV area that is on the banks of a lake and running creek.
“It’s a really beautiful looking, first-class property – a real trophy asset.”
