Batemans Bay is a jewel on the south coast of NSW, a glorious destination in itself, but also a wonderful base for exploring the wonders and natural beauty of this astonishing area. 

Renowned as the heart of Australia's oyster coast, Batemans Bay was named by James Cook in 1770 as he sailed past on the Endeavour.

It is about a four-hour drive south of Sydney and two hours east of Canberra. It is the closest seaside town to Canberra, making it a popular holiday destination for residents of Australia's national capital. The population is about 15,000.

The land is zoned R3 medium density residential, and there is scope for the height limit to be increased substantially – however this opportunity currently sits with the local council.

HTL Property Director, Nic Simarro said with a 57 per cent increase in total visitors to the region year on year, the south coast had experienced an unprecedented economic uplift and was showing no signs of slowing down.

“Batemans Bay is at the forefront of growth in this regard, and hence early entry into the local accommodation market will undoubtedly see substantial downstream rewards," Mr Simarro said.

The local beaches are magnificent. The area’s crystal-clear waters are perfect for an underwater adventure on the Batemans Bay Snorkelling Trail, which takes in three snorkelling locations, Maloneys Beach, Sunshine Cove Beach, and Guerilla Bay, home to rocks dating back 510 million years. 

Riding along the waterfront is one of the highlights of the scenic and relatively flat Batemans Bay Cycleway. It passes many waterfront cafes and restaurants as well as Birdland Animal Park, where visitors can see 100 species of native birds. The enchanting Clyde River National Park is a natural playground by the river, offering bushwalking, kayaking and fishing, and beautiful views from Holmes Lookout. 

HTL Property National Director, Andrew Jackson said opportunities to enter the South Coast accommodation market were rare, and even rarer were properties such as the Batemans Bay Lodge with its direct water access in the form of a jetty.

“Keeping in mind the medium density residential zoning, future outlooks on the land value appear prosperous,” Mr Jackson said.

“Furthermore, we are already aware of a number of sites in the surrounding area that will soon be major apartment buildings; and we anticipate a similar opportunity for Batemans Bay Lodge in the long term.”
