South Brisbane

South Brisbane is an inner-city suburb of Queensland’s capital city, overlooking the southern bank of Brisbane’s river and boasting stunning parklands, an appreciation for the arts, a broad food and beverage offering, and several heritage-listed buildings.


Guests travel to South Brisbane for its close proximity to Brisbane’s central business district, esteemed restaurants, the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, and for the many shopping opportunities it provides. A number of events and performances also draw visitors to the area, with the Queensland Performing Arts centre located in the area, and the Brisbane Festival held at the South Bank Parklands each September. Whilst in the area, visitors enjoy local entertainment, collective markets, cycling paths, various free kids’ activities in the Parklands, annual fireworks displays above the river, and visits to local cultural centres such as the Queensland Art Gallery, Museum, the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art, or the State Library of Queensland.


Both domestic and international visitors can easily access the area by air, with Brisbane Airport a short 20-minute drive or train journey from South Brisbane.


The South Bank Parklands is a popular area for both locals and visitors, with 17 hectares of land offering views of the river, as well as a range of cafés, bars and restaurants, and space for visitors to enjoy peace and quiet not far from the bustling city. A number of other eateries are located on the popular Grey and Little Stanley Streets, which attract a large number of tourists every year, and are also home to some of the area’s most popular luxury hotel options.


A popular region for both business and family travel, South Brisbane offers a range of accommodation options, including serviced apartments, hotels, and budget motels.

With business travel prevalent in the area, and the region experiencing moderate to warm temperatures throughout the year, South Brisbane has high visitor numbers all year, with higher rates of tourism in peak months. Peak times generally fall in the summer months, particularly around various state school holidays.
