Region Profile

Biggera Waters

Situated on the northern end of Queensland’s sunny Gold Coast, Biggera Waters is home to protected beaches, a huge shopping scene, and a broad offering of food and accommodation.

While the beaches in Biggera Waters provide the perfect place to relax and unwind, there are plenty of activities for holidaymakers to choose from. The local channels and beaches are a popular place for fishing, as well as water sports such as canoeing and kayaking.  To save visitors bringing their own equipment from home, a number of local rental outlets can provide visitors with boats, tackle, or surfboards.

Both overnight visitors and day-trippers choose to visit Biggera Waters not only for its natural beauty, but also for its shopping experiences. The Harbour Town Shopping Centre is home to over 240 outlet stores and specialty retailers, and also has a range of alfresco dining options.

Other visitors come for the area’s close proximity to major Queensland theme parks, Sea World, Warner Bros Movie World, Wet ‘N Wild and Dreamworld, or stay during Australia’s largest school leavers celebrations which take place on the Gold Coast between November and December each year.

With sub-tropical temperatures on the Gold Coast averaging in the mid-20s all year round, tourism remains at a steady pace throughout the year, particularly attracting domestic visitors from cooler states. While some domestic visitors choose to travel by car, interstate or international visitors can fly into the Gold Coast Airport which is a short 40-minute drive from Biggera Waters by car. Visitors can arrange transfers to the area, or hire a car from one of the many rental companies based at the airport.

Biggera Waters is home to just over 7,000 residents, but welcomes many more visitors each year. To cater to tourists, the area has 32 accommodation options and food services, with both budget and luxury options available. Visitors can choose between several hotels, holiday parks, resorts, serviced apartments and motels, which along with the area’s local food services, provide employment for 10.6 percent of Biggera Waters’ residents, making tourism an important industry for the area.
