Located on Queensland’s pristine Sunshine Coast, Alexandra Headland neighbours the coastal city of Maroochydore, offering visitors stunning beaches, great shopping opportunities, and a relaxed holiday atmosphere.
Both locals and visitors enjoy the slow pace and outdoor lifestyle of Alexandra Headland. The beaches are patrolled and safe for children to swim in, but also provide a great swell for the visiting surf enthusiast. Local businesses offer surfing lessons and board rental, making it easy for travelling surfers who can’t bring their board with them. The area is also home to skate parks, plenty of public parks with barbeque facilities, and safe areas for cycling, running or walking, and the nearby Mooloolah National Park offers a number of outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain biking and kayaking.
For those who prefer the perks of city life, nearby Maroochydore is home to the Sunshine Coast’s largest shopping complex, Sunshine Plaza. While the bulk of the region’s shopping is based in Maroochydore, Alexandra Headland is home to plenty of boutique stores and food services, and is particularly known for its surf shops, bohemian fashion stores, and fresh seafood restaurants.
Interstate domestic visitors travel via the Sunshine Coast Airport, with international visitors accessing the area via the Gold Coast International Airport, or via seasonal flights from New Zealand at Sunshine Coast Airport. With so much international interest in the area, the Federal Government has approved a $181 million concessional loan for a new runway and terminal, allowing a $347 million international airport to be built over the next four years.
The area attracts thousands of domestic and international tourists each year, and caters to them with its 122 accommodation options and food services. Accommodation in the area ranges from budget to luxury, with holiday parks, hotels, resorts and serviced apartments available. Not only does this provide visitors with ample choice, but it also provides 14.6 percent of Alexandra Headland’s 12,900-strong population with employment.
With the local airport set to bring more passengers into the Sunshine Coast in the near future, even more tourists are set to discover all that Alexandra Headland has to offer.
