The 121-year-old P&O Hotel in Fremantle’s designated West End heritage precinct and adjoining the Notre Dame University campus has been listed for sale.
Located on the corner of High and Mouat Streets, the historic hotel was originally built in the 1830s as the Victoria Hotel then rebuilt in 1901 and renamed the P&O Hotel.
The vacant two-storey federation-style building occupies a 1,280sqm site and has 32 rooms, communal bathrooms, a rear courtyard, small bar areas, a basement cellar and a liquor license for the majority of the building currently remains in place (in suspension).
The property was utilised by Notre Dame University for student accommodation and ancillary facilities but now offers a blank canvas ready for its next reincarnation and the potential to service the thousands of students that pass by each day.
CBRE’s Ryan McGinnity and Chloe Mason have been appointed to market the asset, with Expressions of Interest closing on 16th November 2022.
“The sale of the P&O Hotel will generate strong interest from the market, with several hospitality veterans and local Fremantle landowners having expressed interest in the vacant hotel opportunity prior to the property coming to market” Mr McGinnity said.
“A savvy operator has an opportunity to make their mark on the Fremantle hospitality scene, that could be exclusively food and beverage, or possibly integrate boutique hotel suites on the first floor or even create multiple function areas.”
Ms Mason noted that hospitality offerings in Fremantle had gone from strength to strength over the past three years, with the addition of many outstanding venues, including the Old Synagogue, Gage Road Brewery, and Jetty’s Bar & Eats.
“These venues as well as $2 billion in investment in major public and private infrastructure within the City of Fremantle will play an important role in driving visitation to the area and ensuring the historic city remains a key West Australian tourist destination,” Ms Mason added.
